Latest revision as of 10:25, 29 August 2014
To Do:
- Change out snow transducers, 8 pieces
 - swap back the B site net radiometer
 - change out desiccant in the D site radiometer
 - level radiometers
 - Fix C site Rim Snow Sensor
 - D Thermal Conductivity
- Program works fine in Fairbanks
 - OKAY... Look at how it is wired in the field. / in pictures. I think there are two pulse port instructions when there should be just one.

To Bring:
- CNR4 Net Radiometers
- One for B (the original)
 - retap the D screws and if I can't get that to work then move the altern

 - ate radiometer from inventory (B) to D.

Plan:
Code: FDVIBG
Depart Thursday morning @ 7:40am
Return Friday night @ 12:21 AM
Contents
Thursday
- @ airport by 6ish
 - grab coke in Fairbanks airport
 - Arrive at NARL around 11am
 - get keys and dress for day in field
- wind breaker
 - backpack ready to go
 - lunch for the day
 - Water bottle, fill it
 - actionpacker with:
- 8 snow sensors
 - toolbag
 - net radiometer for B
 - drill for tapping D radiometer if needed
 - 6/32 screw for D
 - also bringing a 4/32 screw & tap for backup.
 - serial cable

At each site
- level radiometer
 - level precip bucket
 - look at leveling tower / anemomemters
 - listen to anemometers for bearing problems
 - swap out desiccant in the box
 - might double-check serial numbers if there is time
 - more pictures

Additionally
- At B swap back in original radiometer
 - At C fix the Rim snow sensor
 - At D change out the desiccant in the radiometer

Tools used
- Desiccant swap:
- None

 - Net Radiometer
- phillips screw driver
 - anti-oxidizing goo

 - Precip bucket
- 5/16" nut driver on hose clamp and self-tapping screw on the bucket lid
 - torpedo level

 - snow sensors
- Phillips screw driver (had on hand 3)
 - channel locks
 - 1/4" nut driver
 - flat screw driver
 - 1/2" nut driver
 - red electrical tape

 - Also had on hand:
- serial cable
 - laptop
 - voltmeter
 - cr1000 keypad
 - csi flat screw driver
 - small 1.5m tape
 - tap & die set (for net radiometer, not used this trip)
 - multitool
 - duct seal
 - cable ties

Backpack contents=
- 8 snow sensors
 - tool bag with tools above
 - first aid kit
 - rain coat
 - ultrapod
 - gopro & extra battery
 - waterproof pack cover
 - toughbook
 - extra serial cable
 - snug hat
 - mouth balaclava
 - gopro chest mount
 - this check list page
 - water bottle
 - five bar snacks
 - Extra desiccant (shoot for replacing at least annually and 2-4 packs per trip)
 - bike stereo & stereo cable plus ipod in waterproof bag
 - 2 pairs of liner gloves
 - gray fleece
 - green long underwear top
 - black windproof vest

Wrap up notes
- Precip stands seem to be levelest at A & C so might be best to use them.
 - most net radiometers were close to level.
 - Look into buying more tap & die drill bits & the alternate type that dead end flat like Bill mentioned.
 - see about buying more of the SR50A screws that secure the disposable transducer to the main body.
 - The C site Net radiometer will need to be tap & drilled on the next trip. I greased all but one screw on this trip but it was stripped on the head.
 - should grease all hardware (the main ones like SR50A, net radiometer etc) annually.
 - with things stable, should retrieve current programs and make sure git archive is up to date.

A matches the logger (as viewed in logger net -> status table
B matches the logger (as viewed in logger net -> status table
C matches the logger (as viewed in logger net -> status table
D matches the logger (as viewed in logger net -> status table
... D doesn't match the data file though and I guess that is where I got hung up. The data file didn't increment along with the change of the program signature for the D site.
Post Trip Notes from Fieldbook
@ A
- A trough snow mount to corroded to remove so replaced transducer in-place
 - Level Net Radiometer (It was close)
 - Level Precip (Also close to level)
 - Added anti-corrosion goo to net radiometer screws & connections
 - Changed desiccant in the box
 - Tools Used for Precip bucket leveling:
