Purpose:
Spring station data download and creek measurement.
Trip Summary and Loose Ends
- Teller Bottom Soil Moisture sensor need a bit of attention. No SDI 12 action.
- Buy and bring out a short step ladder for Teller Bottom CNR4
- Teller IS2 charge controller doesn't look to be working (confirmed looking at March data download).
Nome Conex Instrument Inventory (May 2022 Edition)
- Left 2 HMP155s in Nome Conex
- Left 1 SR50A in Nome Conex
- Left 1 BP Sensor in Nome Conex
- Left 2 anemometers in Nome Conext
Teller bottom 2022-05-20
- Problem files
- Micromet110.dat
- Mm112
- Anemometer:
- With yellow boat compass east /west line is at 294 magnetic. From east looking west at anemometer box
Teller SW
- Teller creek is probably highest observed discharge
- Teller sw could use one serial cable
Teller IS2 Snow
- Need a base plate for 4x4 to keep it from sinking further into muck. That turns out to be the source/reason for the lean.
- Limited Lean 5/22/22 by pounding in rebar with guy wire anchor. Could use rebar cap from storage for it (or from Fairbanks)
- Also on 5/22/22: Verified voltage of solar panel and battery. Charge controller needs replacement
Kougarok m64
- Looking east to west anemometer box is at 273 degrees magnetic
- Snipped the pressure vent tube but thinking I should return with something more. Like pvc pipe going to ground so there is even less chance of clogging. Like could add the T sections of drill holes in pipe for venting
Kg is5 snow
- Battery box lid blew away. Otherwise good
- Could use a sticky hook to hold serial cables up inside these boxes
KG South Transect Snow
- All good here nothing to change.
Teller 47
- Guy wire off again creek side
- Anemometers
- Lower anemometer at 275 magnetic pointing east to west
- Upper at 270 magnetic pointing east to west
- Baud rate on md485 set to 9600. I always forget so might need to adjust serial port speed before collecting here
- Should really buy a couple of the rs232 cables for the cr6 cas sites
- Screwed up program change last fall and recorded extreme high resolution snow depth here. Fixed that. Downloaded data from microSD card.
- Should look at pressure data here and compare to teller bottom.
- There are flies in the vent and it should be replaced
- Three battery setup lasted all winter.
- Not much water in bucket but still dumped.
- I think we have a baby oil in conex for fall 2022 geonor.
Teller 47 Snow
- Vertical pipe bent a bit over the winter.
Teller Top
- Was going to disconnect and reconnect wiring for HMP155 to see if the weak connection is not the sensor.
- might also try leaving sensor turned on for longer in program (a to do for when CNR4 returns recalibrated)
- Musk Ox within 50 meters of station prevented a visit.
Snow Stand Improvements
- Shipped out in March parts to add a snow depth side diagonal support (just need to buy the pipe).
- Teller 47 snow
- KG-IS5 snow
- Teller IS2 2x
- Should also add back side guy wires to:
- Teller IS2 2x
- Teller 47 snow
- KG-IS5 Snow 2x
Safety Docs Submitted to Risk Management

Proposed Itinerary
Day 1 --- May 20 2022
- Fly in around Noon.
- Pick up Truck.
- Drive to Teller 27
- Gage the Creek
- Download data from all sites at bottom
- Replace radiometer at Teller Bottom
- Fix anything broken
- We won't fix the mast at IS2 snow site but might take it down?
- Consider bringing a saw to cut it.
- Look at snow depths and pictures and then put a shorter mast in its place come fall?
- We won't fix the mast at IS2 snow site but might take it down?
- 1:30 PM -- on the road for Teller 27
- 2:30 PM -- arrive
- 3:00 PM -- arrive at the bottom.
- 6:00 PM -- Finish for the day
- 7:00 PM -- Arrive back in Nome
Day 2 --- May 21 2022
- If road passable, drive to mile 64 site
- Hike to sites and download data (expecting there to be snow some places)
- (In March everything was working out here.)
- Drive to end of road and download older sites via radio.
- Replace pressure sensor at met station
- Photos of anemometer
- replace desiccant in CNR4 and relevel
Day 3 --- May 22 2022
- Drive to Teller 47 site
- download data
- dump precip bucket
- need baby oil
- level radiometer
- check anemometer for true north
- (ordered a replacement SR50A for the willows site. Will need to deploy in 2022)
- Drive to teller top
- download data
- HMP155 cable, try redoing the connections inside the instrument box.
- If time, measure discharge again.
Day 4 --- May 23 2022
- Wrap up loose ends in town
- Return home on morning flight
