3/20
- Bob Busey (Noon) & LANL Crew (Evening) arrive in Nome
- Hotel opens @ 3pm
- pick up stuff from cargo

- Lily Cohen & Bob Bolton arrive in Nome
- Hotel opens @ 3pm

3/22
Survey marker trip day:
- 8am start
- 10am arrive on-site and set up survey gps system
- 10:45 snowmachine to the top of the drainage. Work down the hill deploying markers
- ~7 hrs to deploy markers for UAV/helo
- Stop sign
- rebar
- wooden anchor

- paracord
- knife
- evening: return to Nome.

3/23
- Begin snow surveys in Teller
- Proceed from site to site

Stop sign markers
These markers will be placed on location at the beginning of the trip and will remain through fall 2017 but will require adjusting a couple of times as the snow melts.
Parts:
- rebar
- 1 stop sign
- 4 wooden stakes
- 4 lengths of chain
- 2 grounding nuts
- 4 lengths of paracord
Tools
- wrench to tighten grounding nuts
- knife to cut paracord to length
- light hand maul to pound in wooden stakes
- bosch hammer drill
Instructions for initial deployment
- Locate site
- push rebar to ground through snowpack.
- place grounding nut on rebar and position 4 - 6 inches above snow surface and tighten
- place stop sign on rebar
- put second grounding nut on rebar making sandwich with stop sign.
- start making deadman anchor by collecting materials
- take one wooden stake
- one rectangle of fencing
- one length of paracord
- string paracord through the middle hole of wooden anchor and also the fencing.
- tie a knot.. could do a larkshead here
- put a chain through one of the four perimeter holes on stop sign.
- run the paracord through the chain and tie a trucker's hitch or similar to keep stop sign taut.
- survey in stop sign using GPS
Later in first trip
- when visiting the site on foot, bring the hammer drill.
- excavate a hole down to the ground surface.
- drill a hole with the hammer drill
- put the rebar into this hole
- redo the deadman anchors
- resurvey the stop sign
Ablation trip
- adjust deadman as needed
- as the snow decreases it may become useful to transition from deadman anchors in snow to wooden stakes in ground.
- use the hammer drill to predrill a hole at a healthy distance from the stop sign and re-secure the stop sign.
