Data Processing
- In addition to the bash processing script I've made a jupyter notebook so you can run things either way as long as both are up to date.
- They have different roles I guess. For iterating on the QC csv -> manual qc -> plot sequence the notebook has been handy.

Met 2016
- All fixed prior to start of this page... I'll go back and add notes as time allows.
- But, station put up in early April 2016 as a temporary setup on a
- Summer Precip Ends: 11/04/2016 02:00
- Need to revisit data grouper to address the pandas change with respect to NAN and averaging. 10/12/2018 (for AT/RH/DP in 2016 April)
Met 2017
- all good / corrected... same as above, I will add notes later.

Data Record really ends for 2018 on last visit. Another CF card failure.
- Barometric Pressure good through 6/2018 visit
- Wind Speed & Direction good through 6/2018 visit
- Air Temperature / Dewpoint / Relative Humidity good through 6/2018 visit
- Rain Gage destroyed by moose 12/25/2017.
- Bucket fixed 6/13/2018 around 21:00 - 22:00 (tips in data were test tips with new bucket).
- QA file reflects this.
Met 2019
(Year really does start on 3/31/19 21:00ish. Another CF card failure. On the snow survey trip I changed how things are saved and no gaps since I believe.
- Barometric Pressure good
- Wind Speed and Direction Good.
- Rain
- Spring/summer season begins once moose damage is repaired. First data point: 6/11/2019 1:00 UTC
- Moose damage again on 7/16/2019 0:00
- Fixed and test tips 8/20/19 1:00
- Fall season runs until 10/16/2019 4:00
- AT/RH/DP all good.
Met 2020
- Bit of Rime Ice on the anemometer March 2020
- & November
- Rain
- Start of season: 4/23/20 22:00
- I'm starting Spring way early for 2020 because it's clear from QA'd data that snow melts out of bucket by the 20th of April and there is no more tipping until 5/12.
- End of season: 10/13/20 4:00
- This is the safe ending date. It's quite possible that the precipitation 10/15 to 10/24 could be included but at least the 10/15 I suspect is snow that fell 10/13 or 10/14? So timing of the tips is off compared to when it fell. I waffle I guess but just going to delete after making this note.
- Start of season: 4/23/20 22:00
- AT/RH/DP all good
- Barometric Pressure all good
Met 2021
- I noted this on the next visit page but there is a data gap corresponding (roughly) to files with suffix 108 to 113 (all data tables).
- Roughly: 5/10/21 0:00 to 6/7/21 00:00
- Seems to be the file i/o error on the CF card again. Checked in March 2022 visit.
- Barometric Pressure: all good
- AT/RH/DP: all good
- Wind:
- Rime Ice 1/23/21 19:00 through 1/28/21 5:00
- One loose end: I need to double-check WD. Moose hit site twice this year definitely look at radiation....
- Possibly: ??6/16/21 17:00 to 6/23/21 22:00?? look at data
- Looking at data wind it is basically impossible to tell. So I guess if so, it was a minimal error. I made some more notes about this in the radiation 2021 section.
- I also have made all the corrections i can.. see special note for 'teller_bottom_fix_WD_only.ods'
- E-W 270 degrees was actually E-W @ 290. 7/29/21 to 9/10/21
- More Rime: 12/25/21 22:00 to 12/26/21 13:00
- For sure: 7/29/21 2:00 to 9/10/21 21:00
- From photos of analog compass, anemometer E-W line was at 290 but should have been @ 270. So, made a special WD corrections QA file just for this.
$ROOT_DIR_TB_MET/qc/teller_bottom_fix_WD_only.xls
- Summer Precip
- Season Start: 4/21/21 21:00 (for real)... best I can declare anyway
- After season starts there is the file I/O error data gap and then prior to station visit legit precip in June.
- Reviewing the station visit in Fall 2020 pictures I can see precip bucket was still in place.
- So I think I'm going to just NAN data after the last rainfall in June until my station visit.
- 6/14 / 6/15 rain event matches with top data so I think 6/15/21 9:00 to 6/23/21 23:00 delete.
- From Shortwave radiation data I think around 6/16/21 20:00. Spike in reflected data.
- Season End: 10/21/21 9:00
Met 2022
This info current through September 2022 download.
- Barometric Pressure: all good
- AT/RH/DP: all good
- Wind: all good
- Summer Precip:
- Not corrected yet (Sept 2022 pre trip update: need the missing data gap dates first)
- Also of note: look more closely at moose impacts in august/september.
Radiation
Radiation 2016
- all good / corrected
- The shortwave data starts before the longwave data after the full station is built in August / September 2016. I think there was a wiring or program issue.
Radiation 2017
- all good / corrected
Radiation 2018
- SW & LW & Skin Temp look good through 6/2018 visit.
Radiation 2019
- all good / corrected
Radiation 2020
- all good / corrected
Radiation 2021
QA'd through 12/31.
- Moose damage: 6/16/21 17:00 to 6/23/21 22:00
- I don't think this damage affected the anemometer direction much... correct. Just looked at the video again. solar panel is facing south and tripod SR50A looks to be centered over the right patch of ground.
- Moose damage: 7/29/21 2:00 to 9/10/21 21:00
- I think there is a bit more between 9/10 and 9/21, too but this is just a note for later. We better secured the cross arm on second visit to the site and it was disturbed again on the third visit the 21st maybe? I'll have to look.
- Working on pinning down this last bit of damage. It is hard to say but either 9/18/21 23:00 or maybe 9/19/21 17:00? Judging by albedo and reflected shortwave radiation. I think another thing I could look at would be IS2 snow station data. We were at that site when two moose tore by.
Radiation 2022
- CNR4 sent away for recalibration in 2022.

- Reflected shortwave / albedo affected by a loose wire or something in Summer 2022. Not sure what deleted data.
- Longwave data looks good for 2022 March to September interval.
Soil
- I need to dig into the fieldbook notes to see if the VATP jacked at all in 2017.
- The view from 2021: I think the VATP data is probably just errant start to finish. Soil pit data has utility.
Soil 2016
Soil 2017
- Heat Flux plates nonworking until 10/2017
- 2022-05 Have corrected hfp data for the wiring mix up (reflected in adjustments to the key files)
- HFP all good through December 31 2017
Soil 2018
- June 18 to September 24 data gap is real and I don't understand what occurred but memory error again I think. The September 2018 data download was good for every other data table but file: teller_bottom_Subsurface2_2018_09_24.dat is only 59 lines long. Line 58 is 2018-06-10 02:00 and Line 59 is 2018-09-26 18:00.
- Expanding on this a bit it's definitely the memory failure hardware error but with a second bug in play I think. I think the ring memory on the logger got shortened to 1 line somehow. It's a bit confusing on multiple levels because there should have been 10 days of data on the logger?
- 2018 heat flux plates look decent.
- it could be that top & bottom are flipped and also that what should be the top is actually flipped in sign?...need to compare to top.
- 2021-05 Update: Yes I think this is true after putting all flux plates on same plot.
- given that, need to follow up somehow and check the multiplier, too to make sure they're correct. Like, easy to change the data processing to flip the two but need to see if I need to check on if the calibration coefficient is being applied to the right one.
- Yes: 2022-05 update -- coefficients need correcting in the data processing and I have left the program alone on this (what I suspected).
- See line 444 & 445 of 'teller_bottom.cr1' and same line numbers of 'teller_bottom_2022-03-29.cr1'
- In Program: cal = 1 / (63.39 / 1000) for upper
- In Program: cal = 1 / (55.58 / 1000) for lower
- In config csv file upper = array element 23 // poly fx //coef2 = (-55.58 / 63.39)
- In config csv file lower = array elemnt = 22 // poly fx // coef2 = ( 63.39 / 55.58 )
- to be done:
- on top of all that, the wires are backwards or the plate is upside down for the upper plate.
- it could be that top & bottom are flipped and also that what should be the top is actually flipped in sign?...need to compare to top.
- VATP
- Blip during station visit at 6/13/2018 21:00
- Soil Pit Temps / Moisture
- I fixed a bug during first June 2018 visit related to 1 vs 0 start to a for loop (SDI12 is zero based array, CR Basic is one based array).
- Then I think on the second June 2018 visit I adjusted the SDi12 addresses (disconnecting as little as possible) and loosely that's how things are jumbled. I've added all of this to the qc spreadsheets but I think I will add a new key file for data beginning with 2018-06-15 21:00:00 (data file):
teller_bottom_Subsurface2_2018_09_24.dat
- Also can fix this without QC by adding more key files / param files.
2018
Soil 2019
- Heat Flux plates seem to show a pulse of water 2021-04-21. Otherwise, all good.
- Might have own goaled on April 2019 winter snow survey trip and loaded up program with older bugs. There's another hop in the soil moisture 10 becomes 20 on 2019 4/7 19:00. (etc etc )
- ( ...This would explain why I noticed an off one in 2022 May)
- yes. all true.
- One general comment on 5cm soil moisture. There is so little soil and the soil is often so dry the values I think lack in accuracy. This holds true for every year.
Soil 2020
- Heat Flux Plate data all good
Soil 2021
- Heat Flux PLate data all good
Soil 2022
- It looks like March 12 to March 15 there are some unrealistic data spikes in the Heat Lower Flux Plate data.
- 2022-03-12 5:00 to 11:00
- 2022-03-13 15:00 to 18:00
- 2022-03-14 12:00 (single hour)
- Soil Pit processed through May 2022 visit.

Snow
2022 Reanalysis
I'm using for reanalysis a jupyter notebook:
uaf_sp/bin/2022-Jan-TellerBottom_DailyMeans for Snow
Basically, it just prints to that window some summary values for a two month window. I'll past below:
Tripod Snow 2016-2017
- Original season start:
- 11/5/2016 19:00
- Revised plus start of season discussion
- 11/15/16 16:00 longwave top & bottom are about same
- Wind kind of suggests nothing going on 11/15 9:00 to 11/16 0:00
- barometric pressure data mirrors longwave & wind
- so from all those and a minimum in the snow depth data I think official start is:
- 11/16/2016 5:55
- Looking at daily data table below it seems likely there is shoulder season snow that melts away. before the official start which I think gets pushed. That makes a bit more sense from the perspective of the fall noise signal in depth data.
- Original season end:
- 5/1/2017 0:00
- Revised Season End:
- 4/28/17 23:50
- Reference daily summary data... clipping from what notebook outputs:
- Fall albedo no snow: 0.14 to 0.19
- Frost / trace snow cover albedo: 0.20 to 0.24 (roughly)
- Fresh snow but sticks extending above snow surface albeo: 0.25 to 0.35
- Fresh and older snow but closer to 100% snow cover: 0.5 and up.

- End of season revision remarks:
- Not sure why season went an extra couple of days. Though, it is hard to pin down a firm date. The diurnal air temperature is I think impacting the speed of sound correction maybe.
- So I think that's what is playing a role in the late in the day 4/28 to 5/1 data.
Snow 2017-2018
