Revision as of 10:35, 9 June 2016

Head up June 7th, 2016

install new evap pan

  • leak test (marine epoxy in case of leaks. should be up in the EDC office)
  • clean out bottom
  • field calibrate
Fill pan partway with water, measure height with ruler in mm
Measure voltage by reading the EvapLevelTemp variable on the program
Add more water, measure water depth in pan
   Measure voltage
Calculate multiplier and offset using y = mx+b
       m(multiplier) = (height1-height2)/(voltage2-voltage1)
       b(offset) = height1-(m*voltage1)

calibrate precip

Tipping bucket

  • fill bottle to line, use smallest orifice, do this 3 times
  • should be 30mm per bottle, so 90mm total
  • change multiplier in program if necessary

Pluvio accuracy test

  • received software in ftp from ott (on my fancy laptop, need to transfer to toughbook)
  • need usb cable

Brie Helps with

  • swap in fancier wind sensor 5108-45-12M
shouldn't need to re-align if don't move he orientation ring
wiring slightly different
  • swap out HMP155s
    • write down which height is which SN
  • download garden cam images
    • bring replacement batteries
    • to turn off: press and hold organge power button until 3 beeps and green LED turns off
    • remove drive, download and clear images on computer
    • to turn on:press and hold organge power button until green LED lights up. after a few sec beep twice. green LED every 15 sec indicates normal running. if any other beeping or lights, consult manual

additional tasks

  • wire junction to split all instruments needing 12V from logger
  • swap out quantum sensors
    • bring mini wrench to replace them
    • figure out what the connection is like at toolik
    • change calibration constant?
  • remove old radio
  • get field books from Brie
  • swap CNR4, change program constants
  • install new barometer, change program constants
  • level radiometers + tipping bucket
  • Take down auxiliary snow station
    • get data off of logger, wind up power and ethernet, etc

take photos of sensors without pics on instrumentation site

  • HMP155
  • wind sensors
  • snow dept
  • barometer
  • evap pan

program changes

  • evap pan calibration
  • possible tipping bucket calibration
  • possible pluvio calibration
  • UVA+UVB corrections. UVA:0.0221, UVB: 0.00178 (per Lija's email)
  • barometer mult and offset changes (+85 to offset for elevation difference)
  • CNR4 constants
LW up: 7.51
LW down: 8.24
SW up: 16.77
SW down: 14.82
  • 5108 WS multiplier, 0.1666
  • we zero out the CMP6, but not the CNR4. reconsider?

get SN of all instruments/loggers on google sheet

  • datalogger,mux, radios, nl__
  • both wind sensors,cmp4, cmp6, evap gauge, precips
  • basically everything

To change on instrumentation website

  • pluvio is actually version 2
  • lake temp measurement
  • barometer
  • ask ed to put 2015 met report up

to bring

  • laptop + charger
  • field laptop + charger
  • tipping bucket calibration box
  • gloves, hat(warm and sun)
  • tools (level, compass, small wrench for quantum)
  • wire junction
  • hiking boots,rubber boots,running shoes
  • field book, regular notebook
  • usb cable for pluvio
  • batteries for garden cam
  • measuring cup set for leveling UVA and UVB sensors
  • cookies for brie
  • instruments
    • anemometer
    • CNR4
    • Two HMP155s
    • baromter
    • quantum

to purchase

  • action packers
  • AA batteries
  • scrubby for the evaporation pan

should have had

  • electrical tape
  • snips
  • crimper (where did it go?)
  • rectangle level
  • larger crescent wrench
  • zip ties
  • 2 crossarm mounting kits for wind sensors
  • mesh for shield for pluvio

accomplished

June 6, 2016

  • swapped both HMP155
  • swapped 5108 for 5106. the crossarm had rotated. brie re-levelled it and secured it with better crossarm mounting bracket (need to purchase another). and consider moving the bar next time we swap a sensor.
  • downloaded garden cam images, cleared flashdrive, replaced upper batteries, need to replace lower ones.
  • emptied pluvio
    • pluvio software WORKS when connected to pluvio! calibrate tomorrow
