June 2013 Trip

Shipping

  • New Instrumentation once it arrives on 5/26ish:
    • Precip Buckets 3x
    • Wind Screen 3x
    • HMP155s 6x
    • MetOne 6x
    • Barometric Pressure
    • Radiation Shields
    • Cross Arms & Mounts
      • 1.5" Sched 40 Aluminum = Net Radiometer 3x
      • 1" Sched 40 Aluminum = Upper WS & AT/RH 3x
    • Tripod Mast
      • 1.5" Sched 40 Galvanized Pipe
    • Net Radiometer
      • Fan/Heater is in Barrow
    • NuRail Fittings for crossarms

To Add to each site

  • 2 HMP155s w/ Radiation Shields
  • 1 pcs 107 radiation shield (bringing it, will mull when looking at as-built.
  • 2 Met One 014a WS
  • 3pcs Cross Arm Mounts for each
    • 3.5m cross arm
    • 3.5m WS
    • 1m WS
  • 1 Tipping Bucket w/ Windscreen
    • Some alter-shield NuRail fittings are on site. Check the battery box I think?... also may have been repurposed for snow sensors, my notes are unclear. Also check the D site box in storage.
  • 1 CNR4 Net Radiometer with Heater/Fan Control
  • 1 AM16/32B inside the box
  • Cable Management inside the box (new cable list:)
    • 2 pcs 014a
    • 2 pcs hmp155
    • 3 pcs cnr4
  • might go looking for a short steel cable of some sort to run down the pipe.
  • Anything else?

Additionally, to add to Grid Site

  • Maybe? Still on the fence about this due to ground location of the box. CS106 Barometric Pressure. Could also add to A yet.
    • Need to dig out a vent tube
    • Bring up parts to put a new hole in this enclosure

Rewiring at each site

  • Move AM16/32B #1 & #2 RES to CR1000 C1
  • Move SR50A Green Wire to CR1000 C5
    • Reprogram the IDs for the SR50As
      • #1 = ID7
      • #2 = ID8
      • #3 = ID9
  • XX Also Measure Thermal Conductivity Heater Values
  • XX Bring up 3 resistors for CNR4 Thermistor measurement

  • cut crossarms to length (in Barrow)
  • Change SDI-12 IDs for SR50As (in Barrow)

Rough on-site todo (for each site)

  1. Measure from top of tripod base to cross arm... note in fieldbook
  2. Remove box & solar panel from tripod mast
  3. Remove existing crossarm off tripod
  4. unscrew center pole
  5. put 1.5" offset nurail fitting on new center pole
  6. add top of tower cross arm with anemometer & HMP155
    1. Armor and secure these two cables
  7. screw on the new center pole
  8. put the existing cross arm, instrument box, and solar panel back on the tower.
  9. Mount all new sensors
    1. On lowest crossarm, 1-1.5m above ground surface
      1. Net Radiometer
      2. Cross Arm bracket
        1. Wind Speed
      3. HMP155 on radiometer crossarm
    2. Armor all the cabling lower cabling
    3. Armor and install the precip bucket.
    4. Install the precip wind screen
  10. send new program to data logger
    1. Bring cabling into the box and wire into the appropriate data logger / multiplexer.


Idealized Rough Itinerary (with dates to float depending on how long things take)

I budgeted 2 days per site but I'm hoping 1 to 1.5 days is more realistic.

  • Fly to Barrow
  • Sort Shipped Gear
  • Track down a sled
  • Organize stuff locally in Barrow
  • Quick trip to the sites if there is time
  • Look at D site box for parts (and prepare for shipment back to Fairbanks)

6/12

  • Haul stuff out for A site
  • Add components to A site

6/13

  • Haul stuff out for B site
  • Finish A site
  • Start B site

6/14

  • Haul stuff out for C site
  • Finish B site
  • Start C site?

  • Finish C site

6/16

  • Ship stuff back to Fairbanks
  • Depart for Fairbanks
