Contents
Instal evap pan
- field calibrate
- edit program
- for platform
- exterior grade plywood - home depot will cut it
- exterior deck screws
- calibrate in mm to get units in mm
Wind sensors replacement
- calculate multiplier for wind direction sensor. for back calculation purposes
- Replace wind direction sensors
- align (declination: 18.5 degrees)
- North (0/360 degrees) when nose points AWAY from box, for both sensors
aligned in office so that when nose faces same way as box, reads 180.
- to install propeller, hand tighten then tighten with channel locks
- both wind sensors can use same excitation port
- White = 5106, Black = 5103
Telemetry
Finish installing radio + ethernet for redundancy
- old RF310B is in WQ in computer racks to left after enter
- black box with campbell scientific marking
- put timer on power source
- radio connected to CR3000 with CS10 port gets power from this port as well
- check config settings on NL201 nl201.toolik.uaf.edu should be:
- HwAddr: 00:D0:2C:02:0D:73.
- IP address: 137.229.91.81
- Subnet MASK: 255.255.255.192
- Default Gateway/Router:137.229.91.65
- for NL100 I'm bring up
- HwAddr (MAC address): 00d02c0004c0
- IP address: 137.229.91.82
- Subnet MASK: 255.255.255.192
- Default Gateway/Router:137.229.91.65
Items to bring up
- alcohol swabs
- compass
- outlet timer for old radio
- NL100
- smart phone
- evap gauge
- two RM young wind sensors
- sleeping bag
- nut driver for tower base
- drill + charger
- tube for leveling platform
- wood and screws for platform
- zip ties
- null modem cable for NL100 communication
- cat5 cable and tools for creating connectors
- wire to power NL100 from CR3000 AND ac adapter if outlet space
- field laptop + charger
- laptop + charger
- plywood boards
- field notebook
- camera
- tool bag
- fish tape
- electrical tape
- ethernet-usb plug
- serial-usb plug
Items to purchase
- alcohol swabs
- power strip
- compass
- 32 AA batteries for GardenCam
- plywood +screws for base
Tipping tower
- grab 2 saw horses
- undo one guy wire, loosen others
- undo one leg bolts, loosen others
- 2 bolts on each leg, take off both on one leg, just loosen bottom screw for other 2 legs
- CAREFUL of sensor wires when lowering tower
- have WD40 with me in case can't get wind sensor screws undone
when raise tower, make turnbuckles taught but not too tight
PLAN
Telemetry
- plug in timer to old radio base
- check config settings on NL201 in CPS shed
- run cat5 line from radio in CPS shed
- leave NL100 in enclosure, wire power from data logger or outlet
- (grab ladder against back of tool shed to look into box)
Wind Sensors + Garden Cam
- Alignment
- which way does tower tip and how is crossbar oriented
- stake out east west
- Tip Tower
- Reset Garden Cam
- remover flash drive (may need to cut tape for this)
- download pics
- clear drive
- Replace Wind sensors
- use old mounts or change if necessary
- screw on propeller, hand tighten then tighten with channel locks
- alignment ring then sensor
- zip tie wires and pull them into box
- Wire Sensors
' RM Young 5103 Wind Monitor (black)
' Red Wire -- CR3000 P1
' Green Wire -- CR3000 SE1
' Blue Wire -- CR3000 VX1
' Clear Wire -- CR3000 AG
' Black Wire -- CR3000 AG

' Clear Wire -- CR3000 AG
' Black Wire -- CR3000 AG
' White Wire -- CR3000 AG
- Download data files from CR3000
- upload new program
- Align Wind sensors on ground as best as possible
- first horizontal plane
- second east-west
- Raise tower
- have Brie climb it to align sensors if necessary
- Replace batteries in Garden Cam power case
Evaporation Gauge
- Build platform with pallets and plywood
- attach gauge to pan with pipe
- run wire through housing and into enclosure
- ' Evaporation Pan
- ' White Wire -- CR3000 SE16
- ' Red Wire -- CR3000 VX3
- ' Black Wire -- CR3000 Signal Ground
- Calibrate
- Fill pan partway with water, measure height with ruler in mm
- Measure voltage by reading the EvapLevelTemp variable on the program
- Add more water, measure water depth in pan
- Measure voltage
- Calculate multiplier and offset using y = mx+b
- m(multiplier) = (height1-height2)/(voltage2-voltage1)
- b(offset) = height1-(m*voltage1)
- Change multiplier and offset in program
- download data
- upload new program
Additional tasks
(grab ladder against back of tool shed to look into box)
- download CR3000 + radio device config settings
- level and alcohol swab radiometer (par)
- level and alcohol swab 3 radiometers on old tower (net Rad, UVA, UVB)
- Pluvio
- Hole in mesh to craw in, 3 captive screws holding on outer shield
- empty most of water inside plastic inner tub
- remove any dead animals
- note any damage
- Make sure no water in battery box
- inspect seals where wires go in
- inspect solar panels
