Field Plans

  • First day on site set up tag line for surface water discharge measurements
  • Snow survey at ___ points across the watershed (still deciding)
  • survey water surface daily
  • measure discharge once there is measurable flow in the creek
  • build bridge across creek
  • look for Bob's camera
  • water quality sampling
    • gps positiong
    • note time of day & date

Field Gear

  • make a bridge from unistrut for creek access
    • 6 or 9 5' pieces of unistrut plus wooden planks, bolt together using strut nuts
  • velocity probe
    • Sontek
    • Flo-Mate
    • wading rod
    • waders
    • dry suit
  • survey tripod
  • total station for stage readings?
    • need a taller rod for the prism
    • or, track down optical level.


Day 1

  • take out bridge and related supplies
  • bring out survey tripod
  • start water quality sampling & discharge measurements after setting up bridge
  • if there is still snow at the valley bottom, consider adding additional cameras to the tripods.

Day 2

  • depending on how day one goes.. maybe drop off towards top of basin. Hike down to road measuring snow depth with an avalanche probe
  • at the bottom, finish day by measuring discharge in the creek
