Steps for swapping out the Licor LI7200 RS
Tools
- small channel locks
- flat head screwdriver
- crescent wrench
- flat campbell screwdriver
- 5/16" Nut Driver
- #2 phillips screw driver (short and long are both useful)
Process
- In the window software stop the instrument from recording.
- Unplug power to the LI7550
- Turn off the air pump / stop it from running.
- Use the crescent wrench to remove the one meter air intake (but leave the fitting on the unit, just remove the compression fitting side).
- Remove it and set is someplace safe.
- Use the small channel locks to loosen the data cable mounted vertically on the unit.
- Once it is removed then use the small Campbell Scientific screwdriver to take off the small vent tube (small brass fitting with flat screw)
- Use the crescent wrench or small channel locks to loosen the air outflow tube clamp. Then remove the hose.
- Use the #2 phillips screw drivers to unscrew the machine screws on the bottom of the unit (there are two). Be super careful not to drop them!!
- Once those are removed the LI7200RS can be lifted off its mount and the second data cable can be disconnected.
- The white painted metal piece can be placed someplace safe.
- I usually put those small machine screws from the bottom back into the mount for safekeeping if I'm doing a tower swap or I bring them back to shed and place them somewhere prominent.
- Use a ziploc bag and twisties to secure and cover the data cables, air out tube, and pressure small tube. These will be exposed to nature until the sensor returns from calibration so be sure they are properly covered.
- Carefully bring the instrument and (for forest floor site) the one meter air intake back to the shed.
- There are special boxes for each LI7200RS. They're at IARC but should be brought out for transporting the sensor back to town. Package the unit up and for the sub canopy air intake, place it someplace safe and memorable in the shed.
