Toolik Snow and Precipitation Test Site (Snownet)

Site established on Sept 11, 2008

Installed two SR50s

  • SR50E (E indicates East sensor) sensor has bark chips and trimmed vegetation under sensor
    • Sensor has NO orange tape on the end of the grey cable (in instrument shelter)
    • S/N C4802 installed 9/10/08
    • Measured SR50 distance to the ground is 160, 163, 163, 160, 160, 159 cm average = 161
    • Uses control port 3 on datalogger
  • SR50W (W indicates West sensor) sensor has no bark chips, no trimmed vegetation, natural conditions, control site
    • Sensor has orange tape at the end of the grey cable (into the instrument shelter) indicating it is the control
    • S/N C5011 installed 9/10/08
    • Measured SR50 distance to ground 180, 175, 176, 174, 178, avg 176.6
    • Ground surface below the sensor is not level, grass is approximately 24 to 40 cm tall.
    • Uses control port 5 on datalogger
