Site declared dead due to clock drift in October 2017

  • Data continues to be logged as site hasn't been visited since August 2016 but from shortwave radiation data it is clear that the time is drifting sometimes as much as one hour per month beginning 10/4/2017.
  • Last radio check in October 2021.

Here are some notes it's possible though time consuming to correct all of this but I'll leave it out of the data record for now.

  • 2005 - 2016: Shortwave all good.
    • Solar Noon looks to be around 15:00
  • 2017
    • SW data looks ok up till 10/4/2017.
    • It might be worth doing the older grep year routine on incoming SW for 2015+ and then track solar noon shift. Bit messy and time intensive.
    • Skookum switched to pakbus around 7/30/2015 so I think LoggerNet era begins around then, too.
    • Skip ahead in time happens at 10/4/2017 15:00 time step.
    • 10/5/2017 22:00 is next day's sunrise compared to 9:00 the day before.
    • New Solar Noon is ~4:00
    • Fast forward to Feb 2018.
      • Sunrise 2/26/18 23:00 Sunset 2/27/18 10:00
      • Sunrise 2/28/18 0:00 Sunset 2/28/18 13:00 <-- Shift happens during the sun up period here.
      • Sunrise 3/1/18 4:00 Sunset 3/1/18 13:00
      • New Solar Noon appears to be 9:00
      • May 24 2018: Data gap 5/24/18 1:00 to 5/24/18 22:00 which looks like another clock shift.
      • New Solar Noon: 6:00
      • Clock is drifting like 2+hrs per year at this point. By the end of 2019 the solar noon is like 8:00. started 2019 year at 6:00.
      • Clock in 2020 solar noon is like 8:00 in January
      • Clock by end of Feb 2020 solar noon is 10:00
      • Clock at start of April 2020 solar noon is 11/12:00
      • Clock at start of May 2020 solar noon is 15:00
      • Another clock reset May 17 2020. New solar noon 23:00
      • August 1 2020 new solar noon midnight
      • September 2020 still solar noon midnight
      • Clock continues to drift in 2021.

Problem Sensors

June 2008: Just Precip bucket.
February 2009: 10m HMP45C (went haywire 12/9/08 4:00 AK STD)

Site To Do List

  • Replace AT/RH sensors (1m, 3m, 10m)
  • All new hardware for radiometers (specifically the machine screws holding the SW/LW radiometers to the radiometer tower). Net radiometer u-bolts. U-bolts should be in the Nome storage but the machine screws will need to be brought from Fairbanks.
  • Replace transducer on the Judd.
  • Precip Bucket still broken.

Site Log / Visits

On 9/2007 Seward Peninsula Visit weren't able to get across the river (as in another year) so net radiometer overwintered.

From 6/13/08 Visit

Net Radiometer Q99137 installed in 2005 - 2007
Positive Coefficient: 9.15 W/m^2/mV, Negative Coefficient: 11.13 W/m^2/mV
Net Radiometer Q97260 Installed 6/13/2008
Positive Coefficient: 9.89 W/m^2/mV, Negative Coefficient: 12.58 W/m^2/mV
Judd Snow Depth (digital) 02898

From 8/26/08 Visit

Installed new soil temperature thermistors:
0 cm bgs
5 cm bgs
15 cm bgs
25 cm bgs
35 cm bgs
70 cm bgs

Pulled all radiometers and brought them back to Fairbanks so they can be recalibrated.
Precip bucket still broken. '2' value in input location and final storage ever since attempted fix in June. Not sure what the deal is at present.
