- check if Anemometers are still within specification
- download data
- only planning to visit 10 meter tower and Mauze Gulch (up from bridge)
- bring out new battery
- Existing Sites @ Council
- Remove lowest section of Tower? @ blueberry hill
- Level radiometers
- level precip buckets
- Refresh AT/RH sensors
- check if Anemometers are still within specification
- download data
- spend two nights with Mike Murphy to maximize field time
- radiometer setup to Grid site
- put in ground control point
- Bring out new battery
- Existing Skookum Pass Repeater site
- Switch old data logger out for CR800 and
- if time install redundant satellite link
- bring up two batteries
- Existing Anvil Mountain Repeater site
- bring up two batteries
- Change AT/RH/DP out for simpler Air temperature only
8/11
- Arrive @ around Noon
- Pick up vehicle. confirmation number 39289
- Pick up freight
- Visit Anvil Mountain and swap out batteries.
- Get groceries
- Pack vehicle for 8/12
- Pick up freight
- bring teller coded gear to Bering Air
8/12 - 8/14 or 15
(I think this may take more than two days)
Starting to think 1.5 -2 days per site is more realistic
- Go to Teller
- @Top Put up permanent site
- see above for instrumentation etc
- @ SW station
- see above for instrumentation etc
- @ Snowmelt Logger
- see above for instrumentation etc
- Use Survey GPS to lock in positions of all instrumentation (before move and after!)
- Make a discharge measurement
- Level precipitation gage
- Bring a drill & self-tapping screw to lock tipping bucket in place.
8/14 - 8/16
- FUEL UP!!!!
- If the weather cooperates, hike up and visit the Kigluaiks Sites
- optional / cancel if behind schedule...
- download data
- reorient antenna if needed
- Plan A: Recon the Kougarok site
- Plan B: save Kougarok_m64 site for '17
- Plan C: put some instruments @ Pilgrim hot springs?
- @Kougarok_m64
- see above for instrumentation etc
- @ K2 Met
- grab data off the storage module
- sensor refresh
- Battery
- better secure the radiation stand to make sure it stays level.
- @ K3 Mauze Gulch
- Sensor refresh
- AT/RH
- SR50A
- Battery?
- Data Download
- Sensor refresh
- Camping Schedule on ideal itinerary
- 8/14: Salmon Lake BLM
- 8/15: Kougarok Cabin
- 8/16: Kougarok Cabin
8/17 - 8/18
- Drive back to Nome
- FUEL UP!!!!
- Drive out to Council
- Spend two nights @ B&B.
- Focus on C2 Blueberry site & Tower.
- make the radiation stand more solid.
- Reduce the tower to 2 sections
8/19
- Return to Nome
- On way stop by Skookum Pass repeater
- Fix as noted above.
- Ship anything in need of shipping
- depart for Fairbanks in evening
To bring MISC
- anti seize goop
- camping gear
- putty for boxes
- rope-a-long
Hydra Probe notes
- ID 0 = 5cm = red
- ID 1 = 10cm = orange
- ID 2 = 20cm = purple
- ID 3 = 30cm = brown
- ID 4 = 40cm = black
VATP notes
- bringing 2 drill bits (different tips), two extensions (different lengths), and two connectors
- also need to bring wrenches
- drill in UAF Nome storage
- when installing VATP, remove upper veg layer, drill a hole, install VATP, cut a slit in upper layer to place back around installed probe
- use white duct tape to secure probe to conduit
Anemometer notes
Testing each anemometer for
- propeller torque using anemometer torque disc (18310)
- factory spec is 2.6 gm-cm (black nylon screw at 5cm and metal screw at 2cm)
- 33821 moved with 0.2 gm-cm (a black nylon screw at 2cm radius), so this is much better than factory spec
- 61996 moved with 0.5 gm-cm
- tested both Clock Wise(CW) and Counter Clock Wise (CCW)
- factory spec is 2.6 gm-cm (black nylon screw at 5cm and metal screw at 2cm)
- Wind speed using anemometer drive (18802)
- @200rpm = 0.98m/s. @1000rpm = 4.9m/s. @2000rpm = 9.8m/s
- tested both CW and CCW
- Vane Torque using Vane Torque Gauge (18331)
- mount the gauge, pull the string, if it moves with < 30 gm-cm of torque, golden.
- tested both CW and CCW
- Wind Direction using Vane Angle Fixture Tower Mount (18212)
- checked 3 directions
- 33821 all within 1 degree of accuracy
- 61996 reads 3 degrees less (ex: reads 177 when should be 180)
- checked 3 directions
