This is a to do list written by Emily and Ken detailing work to be done on the Sept 4-11 field trip. Helicopter is available approximately Sept 5-7 and we extended it until we are finished (8-10). We will visit West Kuparuk and Bullen/Foothills sites, along with Put River, Imnaviat Basin, Upper Kuparuk for stream gaging.

Ken add stations that need conduit and bear fencing.

NSF Sites Notes from Bob (Emily and Rob can take care of these NSF sites on the trip up to Prudhoe).

Note: Sites are grouped by area.

Day 0, after drive to Toolik

1. SagRiverDOT:

  • Troubleshoot network at base station

Day 1 & 2 West of Dalton Highway (White Hills Area)

1. West Kuparuk met:

  • Troubleshoot station
  • Install SR50
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

2. DFM4 NW Kuparuk Met DFM4:

  • Add Electric Fence
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

3. DFM2 White Hills met:

  • Replace SR50. Measure old distance to ground and then measure new dist. after installation.
  • Check or Replace Anemometer. Bring spare cable and spare anemometer. Wind speed/direction are 0 since 7/17.
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area
  • trim vegetation

4. DFM3 North White Hills Met

  • Add bark chips
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area
  • trim vegetation

5. DFM1 South White Hills Met

  • Replace SR50. Measure old distance to ground and then measure new dist. after installation.
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

Day 3 (Bullen Area/Kavik Area)

6. DBM7 Kadleroshilik Met:

  • Check (or replace) net radiometer - readings went bad after we left the site
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

7. DBM8 Bullen Met DBM8

  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

8. DBM4 Sag-Ivi Met DBM4:

  • Add E-Fence
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area


9. DBM5 Upper Kad Met DBM5:

  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area
  • Add E-Fence???

10. DBM6 Kavik Met:

  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

Day 4 & 5 (Mountain Sites)

11. DBR2 Ribdon Repeater DBR2 Troubleshooting

  • Needs HMP45C
  • Needs YSIx3
  • Add conduit

12. DBM3 Juniper Met DBM3

  • North fence needs another post,
  • solar panel wires are exposed, needs "plates" or other protection
  • install conduit
  • Swap HMP45C
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation (if needed)
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

13. DBM1 Accomplishment Cr Met

  • Swap HMP45C
  • install conduit if time permits
  • install solar panel plate (larger size)
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation (if needed)
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

14. DBM2 Ribdon Cr Met DBM2

  • Swap HMP45C
  • install conduit
  • Add bark chips, trim vegetation (if needed)
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Take photos of site and snow sensor area

Imnaviat Flume

  • Install a new larger solar panel and battery
  • Gage the site
  • repairs to wingwalls as needed

Toolik snow sensor test site

  • Toolik Geonor T200B precip gauge site prep
    • select site location
      • need 120VAC power
    • install concrete base block
      • dig hole for about 6CF concrete
      • prepare template for 4 bolts, 225cm apart
      • mix and place concrete
      • set bolts in place; orient N-S and E-W, leave 6" above surface
      • protect from elements etc. until set
    • sensor to be installed later...
  • Install SR50 snow sensor
    • SR50's, wood chips, etc.
    • Mounting equipment
    • datalogger
    • hmp45c/anememometer?
    • wood chips
    • Battery, solar panel, charge controller ?
    • radio/antennae?
