June 2008 Field Trip - Emily and Ken

All sites need HMP45C replacement and send back old for recalibration. Ken add stations that need conduit and bear fencing.


Note: Sites are grouped by area.

Day 1 and 2 West of Dalton Highway (White Hills)

1. DFM2 White Hills met Bear Damage:

  • Need anemometer cable,
  • solar panel,
  • electric fencing checked,
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Swap HMP45C
  • Install conduit
  • install solar panel plates (larger)

7/8/08 Update: Site not visited on June trip

2. DFM4 NW Kuparuk Met DFM4:

  • Install conduit
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor
  • Swap HMP45C


3. DFM3 North White Hills Met

  • Install Conduit
  • Check precip data and check precip gage. Only 2 tips so far this summer. (bring spare precip gage)
  • Swap HMP45C

4. DFM1 South White Hills Met (if time)

  • Install conduit
  • install solar panel plates
  • Swap HMP45C

Day 3 and 4 (Bullen Area)

5. DFR3 repeater Troubleshoot:

  • Lost communications with site
  • Needs HMP45C
  • Swap HMP45C

6. DBM7 Kadleroshilik Met DBM7 Snow Sensor:

  • Needs SR50 replacement.
  • Install conduit
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor.
  • Swap HMP45C

7. DBM8 Bullen Met DBM8

  • Change out SR50, it is beginning to display erratic data...similar to the one at DBM7
  • Wire soil moisture sensors that were damaged (bring spare cable)
  • Replace GWS YSIx3 Air temp sensor
  • Swap HMP45C

Day 5 (Kavik Area)

8. DBR4 repeater Troubleshoot:

  • Lost communications with site
  • install conduit, electric fence, solar panel plates
  • Swap HMP45C

9. DBM5 Upper Kad Met DBM5:

  • Check wiring of soil sensors, take photo.
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor.
  • Install electric fence
  • Swap HMP45C
  • change out YSIx3 if time

10. DBM6 Kavik Met:

  • Check soil temperature wiring for any loose wires (temp sensors at 135 and 150 and 0 depth give funky readings),
  • Measure distance from ground to snow sensor,
  • Bring a spare SR50, snow depth was only 12 cm maximum here.
  • Bring spare anemometer? Data had alot of zero ws/wd this winter
  • Install conduit
  • Install solar panel plates
  • reset antennae radio guy wires.
  • Swap HMP45C

Day 6 (Mountain Sites)

11. DBM3 Juniper Met DBM3

  • North fence needs another post,
  • solar panel wires are exposed, needs "plates" or other protection
  • install conduit
  • Swap HMP45C

12. DBM1 Accomplishment Cr Met DBM1 (if time)

  • Swap HMP45C
  • install conduit if time permits
  • install solar panel plate (larger size)

13. DBM2 Ribdon Cr Met DBM2 (if time)

  • Swap HMP45C
  • install conduit
