+ Rent Truck
+ Swing by storage pick up:
  o bear spray
  o soldering iron
+ shop for food?
+ Go up to Anvil and check it out (if time allows)
o check out wind speed. Bring the backup anemometer from the Nome Storage
  o bring a spare diode
+ Check out Anvil City station
o replace transducer of snow sensor
o wind speed is reading 0 for the most part.
  o barometric pressure problem?

8/6, Day 2

+ Drive to Council (~70 miles one-way, ~2hours drive time)
+ Site Visit to Skookum (2/3rd along the way)
  o AT/RH is busted / disconnected
    - large blue channel locks
    - what else to better secure these things?
    - maybe bring out a pole that can be hose clamped to the cross arm. Then hose clamp the cable protection to the pole. Or, put the pole up, then take two metal deals, and make a sandwich with them around the hmp and the pole. hose clamp in the middle to hold it tight.
+ Site Visit to C1 Grid
  o download data
    - sc32b
    - 2x serial cables
    - computer
  o review current data
o Bring soldering iron and be prepared to solder the precip cable back together

Notes from Kenji

Todd -> next to the gravel road see the pipe stick up. 10m one is very clear, no vegetation. the other is near willows. look for the top of th epipe then loggers are inside the pipe.

Kougarok
two locations tussock the other site is a bit lower flat f tussock harder to see than flat site.

Bear Creek
just before bridge there is some tundra. can park on the higher spot. usually right side of the lake next to the road. see white spruce at thermokarst site. bottom of the white spruce miliatry army box hobo is inside lake is next to road. Matt's thesis is the lake. go around the right side of the lake. nearest white spruce tree. may have a flag or a pipe.

The every met site list:

  • take pictures of site
  • replace net radiometer domes
  • level net radiometer
  • level precip gage
  • self tapping screw the precip orifice to the precip bucket
  • replace snow depth sensors & record serial number
  • download data
  • review data
  • replace anemometer & record serial number
  • replace tarp and secure with NRS strap

Post Trip

  • Anvil WS still broken. I'll need to troubleshoot that again sometime
  • Anvil City WS needs the correct pipe on top
  • I think C1 Grid WS is misaligned (should be double-checked next visit. I think I had a 22* offset rather than 15* or something else)
  • Think about putting more thermistors out next year at Kougarok sites
  • more hose clamps (see Bob's fieldbook) for a couple of the precip stands to buff them up.
  • Fix C1 Grid program for Vlad's deal.
  • better secure all HMP45C heads using angle brackets and hose clamps maybe

  • small channel locks (to straighten the aluminum back to round)

K2 Met notes

  • soil moistures still look good so the mux is probably ok.
  • thermistors all lookk sort of ok. Or, no wildy off from about freezzing resistances
Last 3hr reading -- resistance as measured
16.49 -- 17.33
16.5. -- 17.70
15.14 -- 15.68
18.2 -- 18.28
15.86 -- 15.92
21.15 -- 21.19
17.62 -- 17.67
17.2 -- 15.00
16.82 -- 15.27
20 -- 17.01

(This might be not quite right looking at the wires but established mux isn't busted I think.). Because: soilmoistures look okay and radiation sensors are good. If there is a problem it could be the resistor failing. So I'll check that next.

For kigluaiks:

  • Beef up the at/rh
  • pick up some pipe at kig2
  • bring up an assortment of hoseclamps
  • computer
  • cables

  • East-West magnetic line @ 62 degrees / 242 degrees (magnetic)
  • moved to 75 degrees / 255 degrees (magnetic)
    • --> this is wrong. Will need to correct for this

  • Precip not working: (tipper failed)
  • MRC C3 on @ 5V
  • Vdiv @ SE4 2.44
  • So, now saving out raw values for MRC. think there is a program problem

8/7/2012
K3 Mauze Gulch

  • 3m AT/RH disconnected
  • WD is negative.
  • snow cable chewed
  • net rad bent at a -45 degree angle to the ground

  • Net rad desiccant white plastic screw in deal @ K3 starting to go. Could use replacing
  • Added cable protection to anemometer, 3m AT/RH, SR50A. Could use 1" for the radio
  • all data looks decent
  • maybe think about Saito's 107 temps for SST at all the sites.
