Find most of these in the basement, storage room 106 / (Photos of the shelving at this link )
- Large Funnel
- Hand operated barrel pump
- Also in 106 in the vicinity of the funnel and pump are graduated 1 Liter and 1 gallon jugs. Use them to get the correct volumes poured into the geonor bucket.
Supplies
- Also in Room 106 (in Sugiura's area on south wall):
- 4 Liters Alcohol supply
- 2 Gallons of Antifreeze (unit quantity here you will use less)
- I have found at home depot / Lowes / auto parts stores... when you shop, be sure you are not getting premixed antifreeze. You need unmixed / concentrated glycol. The snow/rain will do the diluting for you.
- Mineral Oil / Baby Oil
- Find at Fred Meyers / Grocery Store. These two products are the same (but the baby oil is scented). Product comes in 1 pint size (ish)
- 6 empty 1 gallon plastic jugs
Procedure
- First off, computer stuff:
- Use the Tower's toughbook to connect using LoggerNet to the site SS_Geonor.
- Once connected, select the Public table for display in the window.
- take a picture using your phone of the current values for (cm or mm both will be visible on the screen):
- Precip1_cm
- Precip2_cm
- Precip3_cm
- Precip_Average_cm
- Remove the orifice (as outlined in the Geonor Leveling wik page.
- Start with four of the empty gallon jugs. Place them on the top stair of the step ladder.
- put the hand pump in the bucket.
- put the exit side of the hand pump into one of the jugs.
- carefully pump fluids from geonor bucket into the one gallon. It will start fluids transfer slowly but before long gravity will take over and if you aren't careful used fluids will overtop the gallon jug. Lift the exit side and the filling one gallon up high to slow the rate of fill.
- When the first jug is full, switch it for an empty and repeat the previous step.
- Repeat the two prior steps until all the jugs are full and the bucket is emptied.
- With the bucket emptied, set up shop on boardwalk. Step one is add 4 liters of alcohol. Use the large funnel to carefully fill the. graducated gallon jug from the basement. You need 4 liters of alchol for the winterization process. A gallon is 3.78 so you have a couple options. Fill the 1 liter jug 4 times / fill the 1 gallon to make 3.78 and then add a bit more / use the 2 liter marked line on the graduated one gallon jug from the basement and fill to that line twice.
- Dump the measured alcohol into the geonor bucket.
- Next, the antifreeze. Antifreeze is sold in 1 gallon quantities. So, first off, dump the 3.78 Liters of antifreeze into the bucket. You'll need about 3 liters (2.8L) of antifreeze from the second one gallon. Use your graduated jugs from the basement and pour through the funnel the antifreeze.
- Dump the measured quantity of antifreeze into the bucket.
- Next, pour the oil in.
- Replace the orifice.
- Finally, more computer stuff:
- Use the Tower's toughbook to connect using LoggerNet to the site SS_Geonor.
- Once connected, select the Public table for display in the window.
- take a picture of the current values for (cm or mm both will be visible on the screen):
- Precip1_cm
- Precip2_cm
- Precip3_cm
- Precip_Average_cm
- Send to Suzuki the two precip_average values (before and after the fluids replacement).
